Where to Find Grants and Scholarships – A Brief Summary

The expense of college is something no one wants to handle alone. Some students have the benefit of their parents’ assistance, some are eligible for athletic scholarships, and some have to figure out a way to make tuition bills manageable. Aside from loans, which are government-funded and must be repaid with interest, there is a great deal of financial aid available in the forms of grants and scholarships. These are appealing to students because the award amounts vary greatly – some are even worth several thousand dollars – and they do not have to be repaid. Because of these terms, grants and scholarships are often a bit more difficult to find and qualify for, but not impossible if you know where and how to look.

Private and public cultural organizations, corporations, businesses, local banks, colleges, and universities are all common sources for student grants and scholarships. Requirements may be merit-based, need-based, or based on any number of other factors including heritage, college major, or work or community service history.
